This article presents the results of applying problem-oriented learning in the foreign language classroom. The use of problem-oriented approach and a system of problematic tasks and situations of different levels of complexity is highly effective. Students are able to acquire new knowledge, strategies and essential skills in productive thinking and to develop imagination, cognitive motivation, intellectual emotions. The use of this approach is a way of promoting students’ creativity and developing their personalities.
