The importance of organizing independent work in chemistry in specialized classes with low occupancy is shown. To increase the productivity of chemistry lessons in classes with a natural science profile, the most effective is the combination of independent work with active forms of student activity, such as working with a textbook and additional literature, performing real and virtual chemical experiments, solving computational and experimental problems, project activities, etc. A small number of students in specialized classes open up wide opportunities for implementing an individual approach to chemistry education. All this contributes to the activation of cognitive activity and increase the effectiveness of the educational process.
