Investigations of phytoplankton and water fungi in lake eutrophication process show a typical successions of the dominant species as a mechanism of ecosystem transformation. Toxic metals constitute an important fraction of chemical pollution in the lakes. This suggests that it might be a similar response of organisms in the case of toxic metals supply. Some attempts have been made to define dependence that would be useful in predicting the productivity of lake phytoplankton communities and potential destruction intensity in the presence of high concentrations of toxicmetals. At the first stage of investigation with Lake Ladoga plankton algae and water fungi the fact of typical forms of organisms communities successions are coming to light It is safe to assume that the difference exist between the plankton succession in eutrophication and contamination processes. The purpose of this study was to estimate the influence of plankton succession, initiated by metals ions toxicity, on the fundamental ecosystem functions: primary production/destruction ratio.
